A Lesson In A Box Of Chocolates

When you’re unwell, even the best opportunities slip away, you’re simply too tired to capitalize on them.

Last week, I relearnt this lesson. We had a box of Ferrero Rocher at home: 16 chocolates arranged in two rows of eight.

After dinner, I gave in to temptation and ate one. Then another.

“I’ll stop now,” I told myself. But I didn’t.

One more. And another.

Before I knew it, I’d eaten seven chocolates. With just one left in the row, I convinced myself to finish it off. It tasted wonderful in the moment.

I felt a twinge of guilt afterward, but brushed it off as a one-time indulgence.

The next morning, reality hit. My stomach was upset. I couldn’t focus on work. What I thought would pass in a few hours dragged on for nearly two days.

We all know the principle: too much of anything, even something delicious, is harmful. But sometimes we need to relearn lessons we’ve forgotten. This was my reminder.

Thank you for reading,

Karthik Chidambaram.
